Spanish Small Talk Training

2026-08-11T19:02:00-07:00

A 4-week program · For learners 60+

You've been studying Spanish for years. You still freeze when someone talks to you.

You know the grammar. You've done the app. You can read a menu. But when a neighbour says "¡Buenos días! ¿Qué tal?" in the park — your mind goes blank.

Spanish Small Talk Training is a 4-week program built for one thing only: giving you the confidence to hold short, real conversations — at the market, in the park, at the café, with the people around you.

Free to join the list. No payment, no commitment — you're simply telling me you'd like this to exist.

Sound familiar?

"¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? ¡Qué calor hoy, eh!"
"…um… sí. Sí. Yes. Hot."

You understood every word. You just couldn't get a sentence out in time. That's not a Spanish problem — it's a speaking-practice problem.

This is for you if…

You've put in the work. Something is still missing.

  • You've been learning Spanish for a year, five years, or longer — and you still don't feel ready to speak.
  • You understand far more than you can say. The words are in there — they just won't come out.
  • You avoid the small moments — the checkout, the neighbour, the waiter — because you're afraid of getting stuck.
  • You've tried classes full of 20-year-olds who speak fast and move on before you're ready.
  • You don't want to pass an exam. You want to chat with a real person and enjoy it.

If you nodded at three or more of these, this program was designed for you.

Four weeks. One skill: talking to people.

No verb tables. No textbook chapters. Each week you practise one real situation until the words come out without thinking.

Week 1

The first thirty seconds

Greetings, and — more importantly — answering a greeting without panicking. We build three responses you can use every single time, so the opening of a conversation stops being frightening.

"¿Qué tal?" · "Bien, ¿y usted?" · "Aquí andamos"

Week 2

Out and about

The market, the café, the shop, the bus stop. Ordering, asking for prices, saying thank you warmly. These are short, repeatable exchanges — which makes them the safest place to start speaking in public.

"¿Me pone un café, por favor?" · "¿Cuánto es?"

Week 3

Talking about yourself

Where you're from, why you're learning Spanish, your family, your week. You'll build your own personal answers — the ones you'll actually be asked — and practise them until they're automatic.

"Soy de…" · "Estoy aprendiendo español desde…"

Week 4

Keeping it going

The real skill: what to do when you don't understand. Asking someone to slow down, buying yourself time, asking a question back, and finishing warmly — so a conversation never has to end in embarrassment again.

"¿Puede repetir, por favor?" · "¿Y usted?"

Built for us — not for university students

Everything about this program is designed around how adults over 60 actually learn best.

A calm pace

Nobody rushes you. Silence while you think is normal here — it's part of the method, not a failure.

Speaking from day one

You'll talk out loud in every session. Not conjugations — actual sentences to an actual person.

Small, kind groups

People your age, at your level, making the same mistakes. Nobody here is going to laugh at you.

Only what you'll use

A short, focused set of phrases per week — repeated until they're automatic. No overwhelming vocabulary lists.

Simple technology

One link, one click, one screen. Clear instructions sent by email, and help if you get stuck.

Confidence, not perfection

The goal isn't flawless Spanish. It's walking into the market on Saturday and saying hello anyway.

Why I'm building this

I'm the creator of Seniors Learn Spanish, where I teach Spanish to adults over 60 — at a pace that respects you.

The same message arrives in my inbox every week: "I understand your videos perfectly. But when a real person speaks to me, I freeze."

After hearing it hundreds of times, I stopped thinking of it as a coincidence. It's the gap almost every senior learner gets stuck in — plenty of study, almost no speaking practice.

So I'm designing a program to close it. Before I build the whole thing, I want to know how many of you actually want it — and what you most want to be able to say. That's what this page is for.

Questions you might have

Am I too old for this?

No. This program exists precisely because most Spanish courses are not built for us. Everything here — the pace, the group size, the technology, the amount of new material each week — is designed for adults over 60.

My Spanish is quite bad. Is that a problem?

Not at all — as long as you have some basics (you can read simple sentences and recognise common words). This isn't a beginner's grammar course; it's speaking practice for people who've already studied and want to finally use it.

Will I have to speak in front of other people?

Yes — gently, and in a very small, very kind group. That's the whole point: speaking out loud is the only thing that removes the fear. Nobody is corrected harshly and nobody is put on the spot.

What does it cost?

The price isn't set yet — that's part of why I'm gathering interest first. Everyone on this list will get the early-bird price, and you'll see the full details before deciding anything.

Does joining the list commit me to anything?

Nothing at all. You're saying "this sounds interesting, tell me more." You can leave the list with one click at any time.

When does it start?

The first group will open once enough people have registered their interest. Join the list and you'll hear the dates before anyone else.

Four weeks from now

Someone says "¡Buenos días!" in the park — and this time, you answer.

That's the whole goal. Nothing more complicated than that.
